If you’re on a mission to become “greener”, but don’t have the necessary funds to build your very own eco-house then don’t panic because there are ways that you can go green without spending a penny. That’s right, there are certain steps that you can take to reduce your impact on the environment; keeping your conscious clear and your footprint carbon free! For help on leading a greener life, follow these top tips and you could be living a greener lifestyle.
Top Tip: Bag it Don’t Bin It!
Shopping – we all love it, but unfortunately it can be disastrous for the environment with so many plastic bags floating around. So before you go shopping, why not take a shopping bag with you? You’ll look like a personal stylist and you’ll be doing your bit for the environment – win win we think you’ll agree.
It can be hard to remember to take additional shopping bags out with you, but once you get into the habit, you’ll feel a lot better about your lifestyle choices. In addition to hitting the high street with your old shopping bags, you can also use this technique for food shopping. Plastic bags aren’t biodegradable, which means they have a high impact on our environment. So by using less plastic bags, we’re reducing our impact in the environment. Go on…treat yourself to a new shopping bag, you know you want to!
Top Tip: Remember You’re “Not At The Blackpool Illuminations”
It’s easy to get into the habit of having all the lights on in the house, but if you want to help the environment, it’s time you started turning lights off and remember – you’re not at the Blackpool illuminations! By turning lights off when you don’t need them, you’ll reduce the amount of energy you use, your carbon footprint and subsequently the cost of your energy bill.
Top Tip: Save Water
We’re very lucky as a country to have water as and when we like – but this has led to a society that squanders water without heed. So to save water, there are a few tips that you can follow to reduce the amount of water you are using on a daily basis.
Don’t leave the tap running when you brush your teeth
– If you have a bath, save the water for the next person
– If it has rained, don’t water the plants
– Only boil as much water as you need for a cup of tea
Top Tip: Recycle, Recycle and Recycle
Most council’s help you to recycle, so before you chuck away your milk carton and empty your cereal box, you should recycle it. It lowers the amount of rubbish you’re throwing away, helps the environment and gives you that warm glowing feeling that comes from being a do-gooder.
Hopefully these tips have helped you on the way to becoming green, and if so, let us know how you’ve got on. We’d love to hear from you.
