4 Healthy Steps To Take Before Surgery
Surgery is a significant business for a hospital, and it comes with a number of risks and complications. Feelings of anxiety and concern are warranted, especially with over 60 million Americans undergoing some type of procedure each year. However, ensuring that your surgery is absolutely necessary is a must, and you should have a list of questions ready for your surgeon before your procedure. You should also familiarize yourself with the risks and complications, so you can take some healthy steps beforehand.
1. Choose The Right Facility
If your surgery doesn’t need to be performed immediately, you have time to do your research. Interviewing physicians and getting a second opinion may seem time consuming, but it’s your health and you have a right to be choosy. In addition to their skill and expertise, you need to get along with the physician and hospital staff. A positive and caring bedside manner will go a long way in your recovery.
A team that has a high volume for that particular procedure will have the knowledge to do a great job and handle problems if they should arise. Numbers are usually public, and the Internet or hospital PR office should be able to give you the information.
2. Talk To Your Surgeon
There are a number of risks and complications associated with surgery, and you can take matters into your own hands for prevention by having a thorough discussion with your surgeon. Begin by discussing your operation and whether the procedure is absolutely necessary. If it is, put together a list of questions to guarantee your health and safety.
Any time your skin is opened, you run the risk of infection, especially in a hospital with germs and bacteria running rampant. The hospital staff and instruments should be clean and disinfected before your operation, and the bandages changed regularly. If you find yourself with an infection due to surgery, you might have concern for malpractice.
As noted by attorneys, found online at such sites as www.virginia-personalinjurylawyer.com, “There are some types of medical malpractice that might be overlooked because they are just minor parts of a normal hospital experience, but they could be a breach of the standard of care upon further investigation and evaluation. Issues like infections, anesthesia errors, surgical errors, improper drug use, unrecognized drug allergies and drug overdoses may all create issues of negligence or malpractice.”
3. Discuss Medications And Nutritional Supplements
Before your surgery, your surgeon should go over a list of pre-operative and post-operative instructions to ensure the health and safety of a patient. Some of the most important items include medications that can cause unwanted bleeding such as products that contain aspirin, additional vitamin E, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and ginseng. A surgeon will have you stop taking the items at least two or three weeks in advance of your procedure. Valerian root and kava kava should also be discontinued as they could interfere with how your body reacts to anesthesia.
4. Be Honest About Your Medical History
Your surgeon is going to need to know any pertinent information about your medical history, so you need to be completely honest. If you had a history of drugs and alcohol, let your surgeon know, so they can be prepared for emergencies. This isn’t a time of modesty, and you shouldn’t be afraid or embarrassed to disclose intimate details that could pose a problem when you’re on the operating table. Anesthesia problems and bleeding are other complications, so a patient that has had a past history with anything detrimental to their care should mention these items prior to their surgery.
One of the most important steps in any surgical procedure is a healthy body and mind. A nutritious diet, exercise and a positive mind can help you recover and heal faster than someone who smokes, drinks and consumes fat and sugar.

Eco Friendly tips you can adopt for a green office
You may not realize it but you do cause harm to Mother Nature in several ways while you innocently sit in your office cubicle typing away some work that has been assigned to you. These are some errors you make unintentionally and paying attention to these minute actions can help the earth immensely. If you intend to invest in commercial real estate in Mumbai, the tips mentioned below will give you a fair idea as to what you should or should not do to ensure a greener office.
1.) Make smart use of electricity:
Most people never pay attention to minute details like switching off the computer, printer, photocopier and other such machines running on electricity to turn them off if not in use. You will find these machines constantly being run on electricity even when they are not needed anytime soon. The screens of the computers can be shut down too if not being used. There are several energy efficient settings in a computer that can be used to your advantage. If you use a laptop, hibernation can work best for you. Besides, if you find that the employees won’t need a particular room for a long time, it is best to turn the lights off. The type of lighting that you use in an office environment does make a lot of difference. Choose fluorescent lighting over incandescent ones. However, using these lights should be limited to evening only. During the daytime, you could use a liberal amount of sunlight for bright, natural lighting in the office, thus saving a ton of energy.
2.) Use the 3 Rs effectively:
The 3 Rs are also known as Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. This applies not only to homes or schools but also to offices and other institutes. It is basically for every human on the planet that uses energy for their benefit. When in an office environment, mull over every move that you make and question its authenticity. Reduce the use of paper cups at the water cooler as much as possible. Instead make use of glasses. This ensures less wastage. When using paper, make sure that you have used both the sides before declaring it as trash. These are trivial things that you may overlook in your daily activities in an office environment. These trivial actions, however, generate a lasting impact and can be devastating if continued.
3.) Use eco friendly products:
The first thought that may cross your mind is the cost of these products. Agreed, eco friendly products cost a tad more than the normal ones. However, they can
be used for much longer and can be reused as well. You are not expected to make colossal changes in your lifestyle. All you have to do is take small, baby steps. Using paper that is 100% recycled is one of the most excellent ways to go green. You could also make use of non toxic highlighters as well as refillable ink cartridges. These small actions go a long way in helping our planet.
4.) Commuting:
The best way to encourage energy saving is by offering work from home jobs as much as possible. This helps to bring down pollution levels immensely. For people who consider travelling absolutely essential can use public transport as much as possible. If the distance to your workplace is short, walk it up instead of getting your own car out.
These are small ways in which a commercial real estate in Mumbai can be transformed into an eco friendly abode for office goers. It will not only help make a difference to the planet, it will also enhance your own lifestyle in several ways.

Your Immune System 101
Your immune system performs many important tasks every single day, including many that you may not even be aware of at the moment. Think of your immune system as your body’s first line of defense when it comes to fending off “enemies” that include everything from the common cold to more serious threats. First we must learn how does the immune system work; here is a closer look:
What Is the Immune System Made of?
Your immune system is made up of special cells, tissues, and proteins. It defends your body against foreign invaders known as microorganisms 24 hours a day. As a result, you can freely move around from one environment to the next. When your immune system is out of whack, you experience everything from allergies to autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Your immune system naturally attacks any foreign invaders within the body. Fortunately, this strategy is usually very effective.
White Blood Cells
The immune system’s “star players” are white blood cells. These leukocytes, the technical term for white blood cells, come in two basic forms. Their goal is to actively seek out and destroy foreign bodies within your body that are likely to be carrying diseases and viruses. White blood cells are found in many locations within your body, including:
• Bone marrow
• Spleen
• Thymus
• Lymph nodes
White blood cells circulate throughout the body primarily through your blood vessels. White blood cells called phagocytes chew up invading organisms and lymphocytes help your body to recognize these foreign bodies to better destroy them. Some of these cells actually leave their “post” and mature to form something akin to the body’s intelligence gathering system.
Once they find a “target” they send defense cells, acting as “soldiers” to seek out and destroy the invaders. When a doctor checks your blood, a sign of an infection is a high white blood cell count. Antibiotics are usually prescribed as “reinforcements” to help the soldier cells better destroy the enemy, which results in you feeling better.
Specialized Cells
Several different specialized cells make up the immune system. These cells work together to fight foreign bodies, called antigens. No one cell can do the job by itself. For this reason, it is important that all the specialized cells that make up the immune system are working together to find and destroy the antigens.
Specialized Proteins
Specialized proteins within the cells are designed to lock onto certain antigens. Once a specialized protein finds the right antigen, it then locks onto that antigen and destroys it. If the same antigens return, your body already has these specific proteins ready. This doesn’t mean that it is impossible to get the same illness twice, it just means that your body is better prepared for a repeat invasion.
Immunizations
An immunization is the process of introducing certain foreign bodies into the body on purpose. Only a small amount of these foreign invaders are allowed in the body to keep you from becoming sick. However, enough of these invaders are in your body to get your immune system’s attention. They work up a defense and attack the invaders. Once the mission is complete, a defense system is put into place so that if these invaders return they can be destroyed quickly. This process is known as immunity.
Surface Barriers
Since the human body cannot realistically be completely sealed off, the immune system does have protections against invaders that enter through the nose, mouth, ears, and other openings. Even the act of coughing or sneezing can be considered a function of the immune system since these actions force particles or other substances that shouldn’t be in the body out of the body – in this case with the use of force to quickly expel the offending invaders. Additional surface barriers that make up our immune system include:
• Tears
• Saliva
• Mucus
• Stomach acid
When you sneeze, cough or see a red inflammation on your skin, you are witnessing signs of your immune system at work. Inflammations, for instance, are caused by an increase in blood flow in an effort to fight infection. Your immune system is on the job constantly with no sick time or paid vacations. It’s a tough, but essential job.
How To Secure Your Home For The Babysitter
When you want to make sure your kids are safe while you are gone for a night out with the spouse, what do you do? Hire a babysitter of course! You probably go through rigorous background checks to find the perfect one. Or perhaps you simply trust any of your friends’ able bodied teens to do the job because you just need to get out of the house as quickly as humanly possible. Whatever the case may be, it’s important that you secure your home for the babysitter when she comes over to watch your kiddos. Lots of things can go wrong so it’s crucial that you prepare your sitter for the worst. Better to be safe than sorry as I always say!
Emergency numbers are on the fridge.
We’ve all heard this line once or twice back in our babysitting days, right ladies? But it’s so important! Leave both you and your spouse’s cell phone numbers, and any other emergency numbers you can think of, on the fridge so that the sitter has them within her reach at a moment’s notice. If anything were to go wrong, you would want to be the first to know. Be sure she knows that your number is always available to call. Which brings me to point number two.
Don’t hesitate to call.
Let your sitter know that it’s acceptable to call for any type of emergency, big or small. If your daughter scraped her knee, she should call you. If your son fell down the stairs and sprained his ankle, she should, of course, call you then as well. Reassure her that your phone is always on. Even if she feels spooked by a noise outside, calm her down with one quick chat on your phone.
Walk her through the nighttime rituals your kids have.
Don’t just leave her wondering what to do with your babies. Chances are, they are going to lie to her and tell her that you give them chocolate before bed and let them stay up until midnight every night. You don’t want to come home to wired kids, right? Right! Write down your children’s rituals, like what time they usually get ready for bed and what time they both normally fall asleep. If she has the ritual down pat, your kids are more likely to follow her orders than if she is left to guess when their bedtime is.
Give her the safe word.
Last but not least, make sure she knows your codes to your home alarm system. Some alarm systems are quite complicated, but most are pretty easy to understand. All companies, including ones that provide Seguin home security, have a safe word. Be sure your sitter knows this specific phrase or word in case one of your motion detectors is set off by a raccoon outside and the alarm company calls the house to make sure everyone is safe and sound. If she doesn’t know the word, you are going to be bothered by your alarm company on your date with your spouse and I can bet you don’t want that! Give her the access code on your control panel as well just in case she has to step outside to let the dog out.

How To Protect The Elderly At Home
Do you have an elderly relative living in your home? Do you know or have an elderly relative that still lives in his or her own home? Helping to protect them and keep them safe is a must. Not all but most elderly people need help and assistance with daily tasks. Even if they don’t need help there are things that they just cannot do anymore whether is be because of lack of strength or any other factor. Here are a few ways you can help protect them.
Clear walk ways
Where ever an elderly individual is living the house needs to be safe for them all the way around. One of the most common ways that elderly individuals get hurt is from falling. One way to prevent this type of injury is to make sure that all walk ways are wide and clear of objects that can be tripped over. This is something that will have to be checked often to make sure that nothing has fallen in the way. Rugs on tile or wood floors that slip around easily are a disaster waiting to happen. Things such as slippery rugs or small decorative items on the floor need to be removed so no one can trip over them.
Clean up
A dirty home is one of the fastest ways that an elderly individual can become sick. This includes dust, dirt, mold, and bacteria. All these things can result in an elderly individual getting sick. If this individual is not capable of cleaning him or herself this is something that will have to be done for them and often.
Remove items
Removing potentially dangerous items out of the home of an elderly individual is an easy way to keep them safe. If there are any appliances, tools, cooking utensils, or objects that they can no longer safely use removing them from the home is the best option. This is not to limit the independence of the individual but to keep them safe and out of harms way. This might also mean removing the individual from a home that is no longer safe for them. This is a decision that the family and possible doctor will have to make together.
Leave reminders
If the elderly individual has a hard time remembering where things are or to do daily task leaving reminders is a great way to help them. Leaving reminders can look a lot of different ways. Labeling cabinets with what is inside of them is a great help if they are looking for something. Leaving sticky notes around reminding them of daily chores is a great way for them to remember things on their own and not have to be told. Also leaving objects that they use daily such as a comb or tooth brush, in plain sight for them to see is a great way to remind them to use them.
Home security
Securing a home with a home security system is a great way to protect your elderly loved one. I chose Smith Monitoring a North Richland Hills home security provider, when my great aunt moved in with me so that I could feel safe leaving her home alone. When setting my alarm the Smith Monitoring app alerted me anytime the doors to the home were opened so I would know if she left the house.

Choosing Sustainable Building Materials – Focus on the Benefits of Timber Windows
Modern timber windows stand head and shoulders above the competition, including space-age plastics and traditional wood window frames. They are well insulated, efficient, and high-functioning. The strength and durability of wood is well known, and timber windows have the additional advantage of being easy to repair. The production of lumber and timber is eminently renewable and actually helps sequester carbon from the atmosphere to turn it into your future construction materials. If you are seeking for Earth-friendly and sustainable building materials, then timber windows are the best choice possible.
Advantages of Timber Windows
It is no rarity for scientists to borrow ideas from nature. Carbon nanotubes are no exception. You may have heard of carbon nanotubes as the miraculously strong fibres used for high-performance golf clubs and amazing modern musical instruments. It may surprise you to know that wood is literally made of natural, growing carbon nanotubes. That is precisely what gives wood its tremendous powers of strength, durability, and insulation. The tiny pipes that make up the trunk of a tree, barely a few molecules across, grow together in millions of columns that are tightly bound together and intertwined. This gives them the ability to stretch, bend, and vibrate together. It is this amazing fact that is responsible for the marvellous sturdiness and resonance of wood.
Timber windows are beautiful. They are traditional and daring at the same time, and well suited to accept practically any stain, sealant, or paint. Their strength means that slender frame sections can be used to hold the glass.
Timber is also an amazing insulator. Its unique structure makes it one of the best barriers to heat convection possible. Timber has been recognized as inexpensive and efficient insulation for thousands of years, but modern innovations have made this truer than ever before. Modern woodcutting and fitting methods mean that the frame can be joined to the glass with microscopic tolerances. Well-fitted timber windows have an energy rating of “A” from the “BFRC.”
Sustainability and Timber
All the timber sold in the EU comes from sustainable sources. The law is quite clear on this point and forest renewal is a primary concern for the long-sighted European lumber industry. Timber is the single most renewable building material conceivable. Trees capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and convert it into construction supplies, in the process generating healthy oxygen and tremendous beauty. The only problem with lumber is that it grows slowly. It takes time to do let nature do her job right. Fortunately the decades-long application of the EU’s prudent policies has ensured the supply for decades to come.
Natural production processes mean that timber is much cheaper to produce than any other construction material. Wood costs eight times less than plastic for equivalent insulation. Modern timber windows are more durable than any other window frame material. This means that they do not have to be replaced as often, which is easier on both the budget and the environment. The Forest Service Council (FSC) has implemented a series of guidelines for rating and managing the supplies, ensuring that the wood you bought is everything that it promises to be as well as making sure it will be replaced and reforested so that future generations can enjoy it as well.

Roofing Options You Should Consider
For several homeowners, the state-of the market has transformed the number of time they intend to remain in the same house. One reason for it is because home values have dropped so much that many are now residing in dwellings that are worth less-than that which they are worth. Suddenly home repairs are a smart investment for homeowners who’d like to raise property values and make their dwellings are easier to-sell. The first fix that householders should look into is a roof replacement, as the roof is what shields the remainder of the homeowner’s investment. For instance, it won’t matter what type of paint or wallpaper a homeowner adds to each area if an aged roof enables rainwater to drip down the walls and enter the home.
When a homeowner calls a commercial roofing firm, she or he should say a lot more than simply “I need a roof replacement.” This post will have a look at a number of the choices that are accessible to homeowners once they begin to request for pitches so they’ll be better advised.
One major choice which will have to be produced is what kind of materials to-use in a roof replacement job. This selection will be based not only on the householder’s taste, but also on where the dwelling is found. One of the materials that householders can select from are:
- Asphalt composition shingles: This stuff is readily obtainable and affordable, but is missing in looks. There are more appealing alternatives and since homebuyers consider “curb appeal” to become a major part when determining whether to purchase, homeowners that can manage to do better likely should.
- Rubber, or faux slate : This stuff is truly produced from recycled materials and is gaining in popularity as a result of its environmental impact and lower cost.
- Wood shake: This shingle option is a lot more pricey, but is really appealing. The significant determining factor will be whether the homeowner can manage it.
- Metal roofing: Metal roofing offers many advantages, like the fact it continues longer than other roofing materials and may be installed over an existing roof. However, the stuff is hard to use and just certain businesses understand the best way to accomplish a roof replacement using metal roofing. Metal roofing materials are quite a little more pricey, so a homeowner wants to be certain he or she can manage it, while shingles are the least expensive alternative.
- Slate roofing: This is another high end, really appealing alternative which is from the cost range-of some homeowners. One major drawback is that it really is really hard to walk on, so persons who expect to be on-the roof frequently to correct satellite dishes or hang Christmas decorations should take this into account.
Obviously there are a lot of alternatives for homeowner to select from, and a great commercial roofing company will have the ability to describe the differences and make recommendations for one’s building.

Professional Home Cleaning… 10 Things To Consider
There are plenty of significant questions that you need to ask a future service providers, in case you are debating on whether or not it’s time to engage a maid service or perhaps you should change to another maid service. You are attempting to take a weight off of your shoulders and to make your house a better, cleaner place to stay once you invite a maid service in your house. Unfortunately, in the event that you employ the service you will get things stolen, broken, and / or simply not as much as your expectations. We come up with a-list of 10 hints/questions that you need to ask a future maid service to ensure your expectations and theirs are correctly set.
1. Weekly when the same team will be sent by them for your home request the maid service. Why? Well, consistency is significant because they’ll both be comfortable with your home and the way you want to get it cleaned. If the maid service cannot guarantee you the same workers it can be as a result of high turnover rate another variable you will need to understand upfront (perhaps they hire daily temporary workers, etc.).
2. If they’re bonded request the maid service. This will give you protection in case that you suppose or get a maid stealing from you (again, hopefully this never occurs but realizing they are bonded helps protect you).
3. If they’re fully insured request the maid service. You need to make certain that the maid service will cover any accidents that may happen at your residence as a maid is cleaning. Make certain they have responsibility and employee injury coverage and that their contract makes it clear they’re responsible and not you.
4. Request the maid service about their worker screening practices. Do they run background checks on all their workers to ensure that they don’t have criminal records? Do they perform routine drug screenings on their workers (drug abuse is the last thing you need going on in-your house).
Professional Home Cleaning Service
5. Request the maid service about the cleaners they use. Do they provide the goods or do you need to provide them? They use to help you be sure you approve of them and that there are not any worries over allergies or smells that cause issues for-you should they supply the products, which products do.
6. Request the maid service about cleaning equipments including vacuums and other things typically used-to clean your house. Do they supply their own or are you accountable and should they use your gear (this is quite rare and must not be the case) what happens should they damage your equipment is damaged by them?
7. Request the maid service for references for similar jobs. The perfect scenario is you will understand one of these present customers. However, in any case it’s always great to learn from a current client. Once you contact the references make sure that you ask for some negative feedback also to try to keep them honest.
8. Request the maid service what their warranty or quality assurance guidelines are. What happens if you aren’t content with their work? Do they complete the task to your satisfaction and come back out free of charge or do they fundamentally wind up doing nothing?
9. Request the maid service about household tasks they will not do. Do they load and unload the dishwasher? Whether a room is so dirty to be cleaned? how do they determine These are all great things to understand in advance.
10. Ask the maid service about their policy around holidays. What happens if your regular cleaning day falls on a vacation? Do you get skipped? Do they shift clients a day? So what can you expect? While you’re on the topic of schedules you must also learn how far ahead of time you can cancel an unique cleaning just in case you’re not prepared for the maid service (e.g. you have not acquired the house and it’s also the night before they’re designed to come).
Of course, cost is also a variable in selecting a maid service. Some will only come in and some maid services charge from the space and quote cleaning for your entire house. Ensure you consider frequency as well (occasionally you will get a discount per clean-up that’s significant if you have them clean weekly rather than every-other week for example). We strongly encourage you though to NOT make cost the determining factor because ultimately which is nearly a guaranteed way to become unsatisfied with your maid service. It’s a good idea to have a great value considering all the factors above rather than only the cheapest possible maid service. There are tons of great choices out there so do not settle on the initial maid service that gives a quote to you, get the finest (get a quote and get the questions above to at-least two distinct service providers).
In today’s busy world, it’s hard for career people and families to keep up with daily chores and responsibilities amidst their hectic schedules. For many homeowners, house cleaning takes up time that they would rather be spending with their families. With one call to Maid Right, you’ll enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing your home has been cleaned by a residential maid service you can trust.
Paying the Hidden Costs of Climate Change Today
Although the scientific community reached a general consensus that global climate change is occurring right now and is accelerated by human activities that release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, the attitude that this is a problem for future generations only seems to be widespread. In some respects, that attitude is warranted. Climate scientists predict that we won’t cross the 3-degrees-warmer (in Celcius) threshold until the latter half of this century. The current generation of American adults likely won’t be around to witness the disappearance of entire cities into the rising oceans, the accompanying displacement of millions of people and the dire economic effects these events would have. However, we haven’t completely dodged the climate-change bullet. Whether you know it or not, you’re already paying the costs of climate change, literally.
Climate change cost American taxpayers an average of $1,100 in 2012
In a recent report, the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) claims that of the $139 billion in climate change costs for 2012, private insurers paid approximately $33 billion while American taxpayers paid the rest. That $96 billion (an average of $1,100 per taxpayer) came from the federal non-defense discretionary fund – money that Congress could have used to improve education, infrastructure or transportation. Instead, we had to spend it fighting wildfires, compensating for crop losses due to drought, FEMA appropriations, supplemental disaster relief and flood insurance losses.
There’s no question that this was money well spent. The question is could we have avoided it? Maybe not. However, there is still a lesson here, or more accurately, three lessons:
- Climate change is not a problem belonging to future generations. We are dealing with the effects of climate change right now. We need to take this opportunity to better anticipate how a warming planet will affect our country. From increased instances of extreme weather and more intense storms to smaller crop yields and an increased strain on American farmers, the impacts of climate change are real and far-reaching.
- Dirty energy is costing us. In the U.S., energy from fossil fuels, such as coal and petroleum, remain relatively inexpensive. Thanks to huge government subsidies, the average cost of a gallon of gasoline in America is $3.60. Compared to gasoline prices in Europe, American gas is downright cheap. Our E.U. counterparts pay $7.23 per gallon! However, our continued reliance on artificially cheap fuels is wreaking havoc on the atmosphere. The greenhouses gases produced from burning fossil fuels are furthering global climate change and its devastating effects. We have the technology to transition to renewable, clean energy, but we just don’t have the economic motivation to do so. Perhaps, factoring the costs of climate change into the cost of energy from fossil fuels would help facilitate a transition to cleaner energy.
- We need to stop thinking of ecology and economy as wholly separate entities. National economies exist within the bubble of a global ecology. Nature clearly affects markets. Why think of them as distinct? Human actions, good or bad, that affect the environment will always come back around to affect our pocketbooks. It’s up to us to change our course for better or worse.
