Calcium Rich Foods For Good Health

Calcium rich foods are crucial for the prevention of osteoporosis. It is also help to keep your heart functioning normally, it regulate your blood pressure and for the health of your nervous system.

A lot of individuals think the only way to get sufficient calcium is to take a supplement. There are many calcium rich foods available.

A cup of nonfat yogurt will give you 250-400 mg of calcium. One small can of sardines can give you as much calcium as a cup of milk. Green vegetables and dried beans are also rich in calcium. Fish like salmon is also a good source of calcium.

Some other foods that are high in calcium include tofu, almonds, English muffins, whole wheat bread, kale, rolled oats, soya bean flour and cheese.

Dairy farm products are the main foods with calcium. When choosing dairy foods just make sure to look for the nonfat dairy foods or at least choose the low-fat ones. By choosing low or no fat dairy foods you will still get the benefit of the calcium without all the fat which is not healthy.

There are whole lot of fat free dairy products to choose from like yogurt, cheese and to milk products. Just remember you can also get calcium in things like dark green vegetables, almonds, tofu and tortillas.

Of course having strong healthy bones and teeth is important to everyone. If you do not eat enough foods to get the recommended daily dose of calcium, then it is a good idea to take a calcium supplement. Just make sure to also either get atleast 15 minutes a day of sunlight to get your vitamin D to help the calcium be absorbed in your body or take a vitamin D supplement.
